Trek Overview

The Kuari Pass Trek is a classic Himalayan trail in Uttarakhand, offering breathtaking views of some of India’s highest peaks. This 5-night, 6-day trek takes you through dense forests, high-altitude meadows (bugyals), traditional villages, and panoramic ridgelines before reaching the Kuari Pass.
Starting from Joshimath, the trek passes through Dhak village, Gulling Top, Tali Forest Camp, and Khullara Top. The highlight is crossing Kuari Pass, from where you get stunning views of peaks like Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, Kamet, Chaukhamba, and Hathi Parvat. The return route via Gurson Bugyal and Auli adds beautiful alpine meadows and wide Himalayan vistas to the experience.
This trek is ideal for beginners with good fitness as well as experienced trekkers looking for a scenic and well-paced Himalayan adventure. The best seasons for the Kuari Pass Trek are April to June and September to November, with snow-covered trails possible in early spring.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Pickup from Rishikesh and drive to Joshimath

You will be picked up from Rishikesh in the morning and driven to Joshimath, a beautiful town nestled in the Himalayas. The drive is long and will take you through picturesque valleys and scenic landscapes. On arrival in Joshimath, you will check into a hotel or guesthouse and rest for the day to acclimatize to the high altitude. The first day of the Kuari Pass Trek begins with your pickup from Rishikesh in the morning. You will be driven to Joshimath, which is a beautiful town nestled in the Himalayas. The drive is long but breathtakingly scenic, taking you through picturesque valleys and stunning landscapes. You will pass by the holy town of Devprayag, where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda Rivers merge to form the holy Ganges River. The drive will take you through several towns and villages, giving you a glimpse into the local culture and lifestyle. On arrival in Joshimath, you will check into a hotel or guesthouse and rest for the day to acclimatize to the high altitude.

Day 02: Joshimath to Gulling top via Dhak

After breakfast, you will be driven to Dhak village, which is the starting point of your trek to Kuari Pass. You will pass through dense forests of oak and rhododendrons, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The trek will take you through beautiful meadows, where you can see a variety of wildflowers and grazing animals. You will cross several small streams and rivers, and climb up to Gulling Top, where you will set up camp for the night. The campsite is a beautiful meadow with stunning views of the Himalayas, and you can relax and unwind after a long day of trekking.

Day 03: Gulling Top to Tali Forest Camp

You will trek through dense forests and rocky terrain, with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. The campsite at Tali Forest Camp is a beautiful meadow with stunning views of the mountains, and you can relax and unwind after a long day of trekking. Tali Forest Camp is the perfect place to spend the night in the lap of nature.

Day 04: Tali Forest Camp to Kuari Pass and back to Tali Top via Khullara top

Today is the highlight of the trek, as you climb up to Kuari Pass, which offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas. You will pass through beautiful meadows, glacial streams, and rocky terrain to reach the pass. The trek is challenging but rewarding, as you get to see panoramic views of some of the highest peaks in the Himalayas, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Dronagiri. You will spend some time at the pass, taking in the stunning views of the surrounding peaks, before trekking back to Tali Top for the night.

Day 05: Tali camp to Joshimath via Gurson bugyal (11150 ft), and Auli (9680 ft)

Today's trek is a bit easier, as you descend to Auli, a popular ski resort. You will pass through the beautiful Gurson Bugyal, a high-altitude meadow with stunning views of the Himalayas. You can see the snow-capped peaks of Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba, among others. The trail to Joshimath via beautiful meadows, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. You will arrive in Auli, where you can take a break and explore the local area. You will then be driven back to Joshimath, where you will spend the night in a hotel or guesthouse.

Day 06: Joshimath to Rishikesh

After breakfast, you will be driven back to Rishikesh, where the trek ends. You will have plenty of time to reflect on your amazing adventure and soak in the memories of the stunning landscapes, challenging terrain, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas.

  • Food: All Veg. Meal from Dinner at base camp on the day first till the last day Breakfast
  • Forest Charges:Included all the necessary entry charges for the particular trek.
  • Other Charges: Vehicle permit, toll, and parking charges.
  • Trek Leader and Guide: Qualified and Experienced trek leader and guide.
  • Transportation: From Rishikesh - Rishikesh on a shared basis

Exclusions:

  • Any kind of personal expenses.
  • Food during the transit.
  • Insurance.
  • Mules or porter to carry personal luggage.
  • Anything not specifically mentioned under the head

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Change/Cancellation of Booking by the Participant

Process

The cancellation process is completely automated. Please log in to your Mountain Hike account and follow the instructions on your dashboard. You can choose between Instant Refund or Cash Refund as per the policy below.

Replacement of Participants

Participants can be replaced through the India Treks dashboard if the booking status is “Paid” and at least 5 days remain before departure. If you face issues, email info@indiatreks.co.in with a screenshot of the error. The new participant must submit a signed undertaking form.

Note: Any Volvo/Train transport booked for the original participant will be automatically canceled and is non-transferable.

Cash Refund Policy

Cash refunds apply only for bookings made without promotional codes or vouchers. Refund amounts will be deducted as follows:

  • 30+ days before departure: 5% deduction
  • 15-30 days before departure: 50% deduction
  • Less than 15 days before departure: No Refund

Refunds will be processed to the original payment method and are based on the Base Price of the trek, excluding transport, insurance, and portage fees.

Voucher Refund Policy

Voucher refunds are available for all types of bookings, including promotional offers. Refund amounts will be:

  • 5+ days before departure: No deduction
  • Less than 5 days: No Refund

Vouchers are valid for 10 months from the date of issue. The refunded voucher amount does not include service tax paid during the original booking.

Cancellation or Change Initiated by India Treks

We reserve the right to modify or cancel an event due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather conditions, natural disasters, low participation, or any force majeure events. If this occurs, you will be given the choice of:

  • A replacement event of equivalent value
  • A full refund (processed as a voucher valid for 6 months)

If cancellation is due to low participation, participants can choose between a cash refund or a voucher.

Changes/Cancellation After Departure

Due to Force Majeure

No refund will be provided for cancellations due to force majeure after departure.

Other Reasons

If cancellations occur for reasons other than force majeure, we will attempt to arrange alternative services or provide a refund in the form of a 6-month voucher (or cash, if preferred).

Participant Dropout During the Event

No refund will be provided if a participant voluntarily drops out of the trek. Any additional costs incurred for return arrangements will be borne by the participant.

Early Return from an Event

If a participant returns early due to force majeure or an event ending sooner than planned, additional expenses (extra nights, transport) must be covered by the participant.

Emergency Evacuation

In case of a medical emergency, we will arrange evacuation to the nearest hospital. Any costs for porters, vehicles, ambulance services, or hospitalization must be covered by the participant.
